‘Unruly Uber driver’ accused of running over disabled vet in Ocean Springs

In Ocean Springs, Mississippi, an Uber driver named Roderick Keys is facing serious charges after allegedly running over a disabled veteran on Friday (July 18). The incident occurred at the Singing River Training Facility on Bienville Boulevard. According to police reports, Keys was supposed to drop the veteran at the Singing River Imaging Center but left him a block away instead.

An argument ensued when Keys reportedly insisted the veteran walk the remaining distance. As the veteran walked in front of the vehicle, Keys allegedly drove forward, knocking him to the ground and running him over. The veteran was transported to Singing River Hospital, where he is in stable condition, as confirmed by Police Chief Steven Dye in a news release.

Keys is charged with aggravated assault and is being held at the Jackson County jail on a $100,000 bond. The case has drawn attention to the responsibilities of ride-share drivers and the safety of passengers.

Sun Herald and WXXV News 25 both reported on the incident, highlighting the severity of the charges and the ongoing investigation.
